Safety & Compliance

An integrated management system governing quality, environment and safety across every part of our transport operation.

Elite runs a formal, integrated Business Management System across the transport operation. It is independently certified to ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment) and ISO 45001 (Workplace Health & Safety), with Chain of Responsibility and Fatigue Management on top. The same systems run across the wider Elite Group, and they get audited and reviewed as legislation and client requirements change.

Elite Safety: ISO 45001:2018

ELITE commits to achieving Workplace Health and Safety principles in our working environment with ISO 45001:2018. As the PCBU, ELITE recognises our moral and legal responsibility to provide a safe and healthy work environment for workers, contractors, customers and visitors. This commitment extends to all offices of ELITE, ensuring our operations and defined responsibilities do not place the local community, any person or the environment at risk of injury, illness or damage. Continual training and awareness benefits all working within the company and on or near associated sites.

Aims & Objectives

  • Provide and maintain healthy and safe workplaces, plant and work systems.
  • Provide written business operating procedures and instructions to ensure safe work practices.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and current industry standards.
  • Provide workers, contractors and customers with the information, instruction, training and supervision necessary to ensure their health and safety.
  • Provide support and assistance to workers and involve them in consultation on safety issues and controls.
  • Provide assistance programs and procedures for injured workers, engaging rehabilitation providers and specialists as needed.

Responsibilities

Overall responsibility to provide a safe workplace rests with management, who are accountable for implementing this policy: communicating and implementing WHS procedures, establishing measurable objectives and targets for continual improvement, and providing adequate resources. Workers are responsible for following all WHS instructions and ISO 45001:2018, recognising and reporting hazards, ensuring their actions do not affect others' safety, maintaining fitness for duty and managing fatigue, and participating in hazard control, training and rehabilitation.

Implementation & Review

The ELITE team is committed to regular consultation with workers, clients and stakeholders to ensure the policy operates effectively and that documentation and data are periodically reviewed and conform to management expectations.

Chain of Responsibility

ELITE acknowledges the vast external influences within the logistics and transport industry in which we operate. Our objectives guide the company in responding to supplier and client expectations while maintaining our involvement with other parties, referred to as "supply chain participants". Management complete training to ensure required responsibilities are known and adhered to; individual responsibilities are communicated to relevant staff and workers during induction.

Aims & Objectives

  • Comply with applicable law, statutory requirements, regulations, codes and standards, customer and supplier needs, and best practice.
  • Communicate the roles and responsibilities of management, workers and responsible parties across the supply chain.
  • Provide the necessary awareness, ongoing training, review and monitoring.
  • Undertake ongoing review of internal practices that may influence non-conformity with the Heavy Vehicle National Law / Heavy Vehicle Act.

Responsibilities

  • Knowing the strategies being applied by management, internal and external, to assess whether the processes implemented are effective.
  • Ensuring management and workers are trained in the awareness of Mass, Dimensions, Fatigue, Alcohol and other Drugs, Load Restraint, Speeding and Standards, and the day-to-day commercial requirements of the industry.
  • Internal reporting assessed vertically within the business through performance reviews of all stakeholders.
  • Monitoring and assessing all persons who control or influence operational processes to ensure ongoing conformance.
  • Regular internal and external communication to demonstrate awareness, with observations investigated and closed out.

Elite Fatigue Management

ELITE is committed to providing a safe place of work for all employees, contractors and visitors under our control, abiding by the regulations and obligations of the applicable laws. Fatigue in the workplace can create risk and may present a serious threat to the wellbeing of workers and others.

Aims & Objectives

  • Eliminate risks and unsafe work practices caused by impaired or fatigued workers.
  • Comply with the Workplace Health and Safety Act 2011, the Heavy Vehicle National Law (2013) and applicable fatigue laws and regulations.
  • Consistently review all shift rosters and working hours with awareness of workplace fatigue risks.

Responsibilities

Management are accountable for implementing this fatigue policy: communicating fatigue-related information, establishing measurable objectives to eliminate fatigue-related risks, and providing adequate resources. Workers must ensure their actions do not affect others' safety, maintain fitness for duty with fatigue treated as a priority, comply with safe work instructions, and communicate fatigue-related issues that affect their work.

Implementation & Review

ELITE consults regularly with workers, clients and stakeholders so the policy operates effectively and documentation is periodically reviewed.
